Your contractor’s partnership license is non-transferable. Regardless of who qualifies the license, it can never belong to any one partner. Whenever the qualifying partner or any one general partner of a partnership license disassociates, becomes absent or death occurs, the license will be cancelled! After a cancellation, it’s too late to qualify for a waiver of the examination.
However…Regardless of what you have been told or assume, being listed on a partnership license in good standing for the past five years entitles you to a waiver of the examination in any one or all of the trade classifications listed on the license. So don’t throw away this opportunity. You are eligible for your own Contractors license.
General partner listed on a partnership license
After 5 years as a general partner of a partnership license, the applicant, while remaining on the license, may apply for a waiver of the examination after meeting all the conditions of the Registrar. The applicant (general partner) is eligible for an examination waiver in all the classifications listed on the license for five of the past seven years.
